China’s Golden Week drives surge in domestic travel demand
China’s National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival overlap, creating an eight-day “Golden Week” holiday October 1-8, driving travel demand. According to Meituan Travel, top flight destinations are Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chongqing, Xi’an, Nanjing, and Hangzhou. People aged 18-29 comprise 46% of bookings, with many extending vacations by combining annual leave for 12-16 day itineraries. Long-distance trips to Yunnan, Xinjiang, Guizhou, Tibet, Qinghai, and Gansu are popular.
