France fines Shein 150M euros for cookie violations

France’s data protection authority imposed a 150 million euros ($165 million) fine on Shein for failing to comply with cookie regulations. The penalty is the second-largest issued by the regulator, after Google’s 325 million euros ($358 million) fine. Shein’s website placed tracking devices on users without proper consent, constituting a serious privacy breach affecting around 12 million monthly French visitors. Shein has since adjusted compliance but strongly opposes the decision, calling the penalty “completely disproportionate.” The company will appeal to France’s Council of State and European Court of Justice.
