Burberry rejoins FTSE 100 after year absence
Burberry will re-enter the UK’s FTSE 100 index on September 22, one year after relegation. The move follows quarterly reshuffling by FTSE Russell, with Burberry and Metlen Energy & Metals replacing Taylor Wimpey and Unite Group. The return comes amid CEO Joshua Schulman’s turnaround efforts since July 2024. The 169-year-old company’s share price fell nearly 80% from April 2023 to September 2024 amid slowing sales. However, recent recovery signs include a narrower-than-expected 1% YoY sales decline, supported by U.S. and European growth. Cost-cutting measures should generate 80 million pounds ($108 million) in annual savings by 2026.
