Balenciaga launches $1,130 plastic bag-like tote

Balenciaga launched the Marchè Medium Foldable Tote, priced at 8,200 RMB ($1,130), on its website. Made from Dyneema fabric with the brand’s logo, the tote drew attention for resembling an ordinary plastic bag. The product quickly sold out online. Customer service clarified the design was inspired by everyday objects but is not plastic. This continues Balenciaga’s trend of commonplace-inspired items, including a 2017 IKEA-like tote for $2,145, the 2022 “Trash Pouch” for $1,790, and recent controversial items like the 15,500 RMB ($2,130) “Peking Duck” bag.
