Fashion legend Giorgio Armani dies at 91 in Milan

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at age 91, his company announced Thursday. The billionaire designer passed away peacefully at his Milan home surrounded by family. “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” the fashion house said in a statement. Known as “Re Giorgio” (King Giorgio), Armani built a fashion empire worth 2.3 billion euros ($2.5 billion) annually. He revolutionized menswear in the 1970s with his signature unstructured suits and later introduced the women’s power suit in the 1980s. Armani had been unwell and missed his Milan Men’s Fashion Week shows in June for the first time in his career. A funeral chamber will be set up in Milan on Saturday and Sunday.
