Goods were reported under tariff code 2936270090, taxed at 4%, but authorities determined the correct code was 2940009090, carrying 6% tariff and requiring pharmaceutical clearance. The misclassification resulted in 165,500 RMB ($22,700) in unpaid customs duties and 21,500 RMB ($2,950) in unpaid VAT. Industry experts noted the case underscores compliance risks.
