High-end hotel stays surge in emerging Chinese destinations

China’s summer tourism market is stabilizing, with the China Tourism Academy projecting over 2.5 billion domestic trips in 2025, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Meituan data shows July high-end hotel stays up 25% in top-tier cities, 40% in emerging hubs, and over 100% in smaller destinations such as Baoshan, Dali, and Datong, driven by “stay + experience” packages combining accommodation with local activities or cuisine. Travel demand is shifting toward younger visitors, who now account for 44% of long-distance trips. Cross-category offerings are surging, with “stay + dining” demand up 87% YoY and “stay + leisure” up 99%.
