Italian regulator fines Armani over labor claims
The Italian Antitrust Authority has fined Giorgio Armani and its subsidiary G.A. Operations 3.5 million euros ($4 million) for misleading claims about ethical standards. The regulator said while Armani’s public communications emphasized ethical practices, working conditions in parts of its supply chain told a different story. Investigations found instances of illegal employment and substandard safety conditions at subcontracted factories, particularly in bag and leather goods production. Armani denied the allegations and will appeal the decision.
