Chinese high-end fragrance brand To Summer has launched its summer project, Drifting Club, encouraging urban residents to rediscover familiar surroundings through unstructured wandering.
As part of the initiative, the brand released two printed guides: the Shanghai Urban Drifting White Paper and the Beijing Urban Drifting Green Paper, available at its Shanghai Xianting and Beijing Guozijian locations. These handbooks highlight over 20 so-called “useless” urban spots — quiet corners often overlooked in daily routines, such as alleys near Beijing’s Drum Tower and walking paths along Shanghai’s Xuhui Riverside — inviting participants to embrace purposeless exploration and mindful observation.
To complement the project, To Summer introduced limited-edition packaging for three fragrance, featuring nature-themed reading lists and oar-inspired design elements. The brand’s boutiques in Beijing and Shanghai have also been transformed into nature-inspired exhibition spaces, where visitors are encouraged to “read trees,” “watch birds,” and “observe flowers” as part of a sensory escape from urban noise.
With Drifting Club, To Summer uses scent and space to inspire reflection on the beauty of idleness and the quiet freedom found in slowing down.
