Alibaba unveils $7B in subsidies to boost commerce
Alibaba Group has unveiled a 50 billion RMB ($7 billion) subsidy program aimed at strengthening its instant commerce operations, including food delivery and online retail, over the next 12 months. The subsidies, announced by Alibaba’s e-commerce platform Taobao via WeChat, will benefit both consumers and merchants. The move comes as Alibaba faces mounting pressure from rising competitors like PDD Holdings and JD.com, as well as an entrenched rival in the food delivery space, Meituan. The campaign marks Alibaba’s latest effort to reclaim market share and accelerate growth.
