China slaps tariffs on EU brandy
On July 4, China's Ministry of Commerce announced final anti-dumping duties of 27.7% to 34.9% on EU brandy imports, citing harm to domestic industry. The five-year measure exempts 34 major exporters, including LVMH, Pernod Ricard, and Rémy Cointreau, who agreed to price commitments. Violators face full tariffs. While companies welcomed the compromise as less costly than permanent duties, industry group SpiritsEurope urged China to lift all restrictions. The investigation began in January 2024.
