Tesla ends China slump with 0.8% YoY sales gain

Tesla’s China-made electric vehicle sales rose 0.8% YoY in June to 71,599 units, ending an eight-month slump. The gain, driven by refreshed Model Y deliveries, marked a 16.1% increase from May. However, Q2 sales fell 6.8% YoY, marking Tesla’s third straight quarterly drop in China. The company faces pressure from BYD (Build Your Dreams), whose June sales rose 11% to 377,628 units, and Xiaomi Corporation, whose SU7 sedan has outsold Tesla’s Model 3 since December. Despite speculation of price cuts, Tesla raised Model 3 prices while boosting driving range. Analysts expect 2025 market share to fall to 13%, versus 20% for BYD.
