Africa emerges as hot destination for Chinese tourists
Africa is gaining momentum as a travel destination among Chinese tourists, driven by viral safari content, improving infrastructure, and rising curiosity. Trip.com reports a 28% YoY increase in bookings from mainland China, with Morocco up 66%, Kenya 55%, and South Africa 46%. Major hotel groups like Marriott International, Hilton Worldwide Holdings, and InterContinental Hotels Group are expanding across the continent, while airlines are adding direct routes from China. Meanwhile, over 80% of sellers on Africa's top e-commerce platform Jumia Technologies now come from China, signaling growing business-tourism ties.
