Ben Gorham, founder of Swedish fragrance brand Byredo, has announced he will officially step down later this month, marking the end of his nearly 20-year journey with the company he founded in 2006. According to parent company Puig, the departure is part of a planned transition agreed upon when Puig acquired a majority stake in Byredo in 2022. Under the agreement, Gorham was to remain in a creative leadership role until June 2025. Known for his unconventional background, Gorham helped shape Byredo into one of the most influential niche fragrance brands globally, infusing it with minimalist, avant-garde aesthetics and cross-cultural, gender-fluid sensibilities. During his tenure, the brand expanded beyond perfume into makeup, leather goods, home fragrance, jewelry, and eyewear.
