Mercedes recalls 13,447 China-made EVs over fire risk
Beijing Benz, the Chinese joint venture of Mercedes-Benz, is recalling 13,447 domestically produced EQC vehicles starting September 27 due to battery thermal runaway risk. The recall affects EQC models produced between November 30, 2018, and September 17, 2022. Due to a design flaw in the battery management system software, the high-voltage batteries may experience thermal runaway under extreme conditions, potentially leading to vehicle fires. Beijing Benz will upgrade the battery management system software through authorized dealers. Before formal recall measures are implemented, the company recommends users set the charging limit to no more than 80%. This marks Mercedes-Benz’s second battery-related recall in China within three months.
