Hong Kong welcomes 20M visitors in first five months

Hong Kong welcomed around 20 million visitors between January and May 2025, a 10% YoY increase, with mainland Chinese tourists making up three-quarters of the total, according to Financial Secretary Paul Chan. He projected that major events in the first half of the year would draw 840,000 attendees, generating HK$3.3 billion ($422 million) in spending and HK$1.8 billion ($230 million) in economic value added. Chan noted that the city has been especially vibrant in recent months with concerts, sports events, and cultural activities drawing fans locally and from across the Greater Bay Area and Asia.
