Tmall beauty surges as China cosmetics sales reach record
China’s cosmetics retail sector showed strong recovery in April, with sales rising 7.2% YoY to 30.9 billion RMB ($4.25 billion), outpacing overall retail growth. From January to April, cosmetics sales reached 145.4 billion RMB ($20 billion), marking a five-year high. Tmall’s beauty category grew 10.6% YoY in April, with international brands dominating and local brand Proya ranking second. On Douyin, beauty sales rose 29.05% YoY. Domestic brands like Kans and Proya led rankings, while JD.com’s beauty category faced pressure, with year-to-date sales down 6.68% to 13.32 billion RMB ($1.83 billion).
