Barbie maker speeds up production shift from China

Mattel has suspended its financial guidance and is accelerating plans to reduce China-sourced production due to Trump’s 145% tariffs on Chinese exports. The California-based toymaker, known for Barbie dolls and Uno card games, cited the “volatile macroeconomic environment” as making it difficult to forecast consumer spending through the holiday season. CEO Ynon Kreiz indicated price increases for U.S. customers would be Mattel’s third priority after diversifying production and changing product sourcing. With less than 40% of production in China and plans to reduce to one factory by year-end, Mattel expects to strengthen its competitive position despite industry challenges.
