Chanel heir appoints former Sequoia exec to lead investments

David Wertheimer, heir to the Chanel fortune, has appointed David An as Head of Investments at his private equity firm 1686 Partners. The Luxembourg-based firm focuses on lifestyle and sports-related investments and has disclosed a $110 million portfolio following its first funding round. Current holdings include nine companies, such as luxury watch retailer 1916 Company, premium eyewear label Ahlem, and French ski brand Fusalp. An previously worked at Sequoia China’s Shanghai office, specializing in fashion, beauty, and sports. With many overseas consumer brands facing undervaluation or operational challenges, acquiring such brands and expanding them into the Chinese market has become a growing investment trend.
