US hikes China tariff on small parcels to 90%
The U.S. has intensified its trade dispute with China, announcing a sharp increase in tariffs on small parcels originating from mainland China and Hong Kong. In a statement issued Tuesday, the White House confirmed that starting May 2, the tariff on such packages will rise from 30% to 90% of declared value or $75, with a further increase to $150 scheduled for June 1. The move follows President Trump’s April 2 executive order to revoke duty-free treatment for low-value shipments from China and Hong Kong, citing retaliatory tariffs imposed by Beijing.
