Foreign arrivals jump during China’s Tomb-Sweeping Day
China recorded 2.07 million inbound and outbound trips per day during the Qingming Festival holiday, a 19.7% YoY increase, according to the National Immigration Administration (NIA). Throughout the three-day holiday starting April 4, border inspection agencies logged a total of 6.21 million cross-border trips. Foreign visitors accounted for 697,000 of these journeys, a 39.5% jump compared to 2024. On the domestic front, China saw 126 million internal trips during the same period, up 6.3% from last year, with tourism revenue reaching 57.6 billion RMB ($8 billion) — a 6.7% YoY increase. The traditionally ancestor-honoring holiday witnessed growing demand for rural getaways and nature-based activities, with self-drive trips, cycling, and hiking emerging as preferred options among travelers.
