French court rules for Louis Vuitton in Van Cleef jewelry dispute

A French court has ruled in favor of Louis Vuitton in its legal dispute with Van Cleef & Arpels. Richemont — Van Cleef & Arpels’ parent company — accused Louis Vuitton’s 2015 Color Blossom collection of resembling its Alhambra design and demanded 15 million euros ($16.2 million) in damages. Louis Vuitton countered that the four-petal flower motif is common in the jewelry industry. The court stated that Richemont failed to prove Louis Vuitton intentionally sought to exploit Van Cleef & Arpels’ reputation.
