China unveils plan to boost consumption

China unveiled a plan to boost domestic spending on Sunday in response to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. The plan outlines measures such as income support, childcare subsidies, an expanded “cash-for-clunkers” program to encourage consumer spending and efforts to support technology. Despite a 4% rise in retail sales in early 2025 and improved industrial production, consumer confidence remains weak amid deflation concerns, a struggling property sector, and employment uncertainties.
