Swiss watch exports fall 5.4% on China demand weakens

Swiss watch exports fell 5.4% in December to 2 billion Swiss francs ($2.3 billion), capping a 2.8% annual decline to 25.9 billion Swiss francs ($29.8B) due to weak demand in mainland China and Hong Kong. Mainland China saw a 19% drop to 151.2 million Swiss francs ($174 million), while US exports dipped 1% to 345.7 million Swiss francs ($399 million). Watches priced 200 to 500 Swiss francs ($230 to $575) saw the steepest decline at 13.2%, while luxury timepieces above 3,000 Swiss francs ($3,450) fell 5.3%. Wristwatch exports hit a historic low of 15.3 million units (-9.4%), though US annual exports grew 5%, solidifying its top market status.
