China sees 43.9% surge in immigration entries and exits in 2024
On January 14, the National Immigration Administration announced that in 2024, China’s immigration authorities processed 610 million entries and exits, marking a 43.9% increase compared to the previous year. This total included 291 million entries and exits by mainland residents, 254 million by residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and 64.88 million by foreigners, reflecting increases of 41.3%, 38.8%, and 82.9%, respectively.
A total of 23.32 million ordinary passports were issued, along with 94.514 million endorsements for mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, representing increases of 26.5% and 9.8%, respectively. The issuance of travel permits for Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents visiting mainland China slightly decreased to 2.578 million, compared to the peak reached in the post-pandemic period of 2023.
Additionally, 2.597 million foreign visas were issued, reflecting a 52.3% YoY increase, while the number of foreign nationals entering visa-free surged by 112.3% to 20.115 million.
