World Bank raises China’s 2024-25 growth forecast

The World Bank has raised its growth forecast for China in 2024 and 2025, projecting 4.9% GDP growth for 2024, slightly up from its previous 4.8% estimate, and 4.5% growth in 2025, higher than the earlier forecast of 4.1%. However, the bank cautioned that challenges such as weak household and business confidence, a struggling property sector, and potential tariff hikes from the US would continue to affect growth. The World Bank emphasized the need for long-term structural reforms, policy support, and strengthening social safety nets to sustain recovery. While authorities plan to issue a record 3 trillion RMB ($420 billion) in special treasury bonds next year, the real estate sector is not expected to recover until late 2025.
