According to the latest data from Global Blue, luxury goods duty-free consumption by international tourists in Italy grew by 14% from January to October 2024 compared to 2023. This increase was mainly driven by visitors from the US, China, Gulf countries, and other Asian regions. US tourists accounted for 26% of the total duty-free spending, while Chinese tourists contributed 12%, and Gulf countries and other Asian regions each accounted for 11%. The data shows that duty-free consumption by US, Chinese, and Arab tourists grew by 8%, 42%, and 12%, respectively, compared to the previous year. Non-EU tourists in Italy had an average duty-free spending of 2,886 euros ($3,070) on luxury goods. The report highlights the strong return of Chinese luxury consumers, with a 62% recovery rate in duty-free consumption, while the overall duty-free consumption recovery rate in the Asia-Pacific region has grown by 204% compared to 2019, demonstrating a strong recovery trend.
