Infiniti may end China production amid sales slump
Reports surfaced yesterday that Infiniti, the luxury brand under Nissan, may cease domestic production in China, with Nissan China set to take over and transform the brand into a purely imported one. This comes after a significant decline in Infiniti’s sales in the Chinese market. Following this news, it was revealed that the brand’s former local leader, Wang Baojun, has been appointed as the head of the Qi Chen division at Dongfeng Nissan, and many Infiniti staff are considering internal transfers or leaving the company. Despite rumors, Infiniti denied the reports and stated it would pursue legal action over the misinformation. Infiniti entered China in 2006 and saw early success with imported models, but after local production began in 2014, its sales peaked at over 35,000 vehicles in 2019.
