Oliver Wyman's latest survey shows that the willingness of mainland Chinese tourists to travel abroad has significantly decreased compared to the beginning of the year, with nearly 60% of respondents planning to reduce their shopping expenses during outbound trips in 2025. Imke Wouters, Partner and Director of Retail and Consumer Goods at Oliver Wyman, and the head of this survey, noted that, compared to last year’s survey, the enthusiasm of mainland consumers for outbound travel has not rebounded as expected. The survey found changes in consumers’ willingness to travel, spending behavior, and destination preferences, reflecting the impact of economic uncertainty and shifts in consumer behavior patterns.
