Mandarin Oriental expands China presence with new hotels
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group plans to continue investing in various cities across China, recognizing the country as a key market that contributes about 20% of its total business. The company recently opened a new hotel in Beijing’s Qianmen area, marking its second in the capital and the 10th in China. CEO Laurent Kleitman emphasized the potential for growth in luxury experiences, noting a shift in guest demographics towards family travel and local staycations. With more hotels in development in cities like Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, the group aims to enhance its offerings in the evolving luxury market, focusing on sustainability and innovative experiences in hospitality. The recent resurgence in tourism is expected to further boost demand, with forecasts of over 15 million foreign visitors to China this year.
