Christie’s opens 4,600 sqm Asia-Pacific HQ in Hong Kong

Christie’s, the British auction house, opened its new Asia-Pacific headquarters in The Henderson, a landmark building in Central, Hong Kong, on September 20. This move positions Christie’s as the third major auction house to establish a presence in China’s financial hub, following Phillips and Sotheby’s. The new headquarters spans four floors and covers 4,600 square meters, enabling Christie’s to host its own events without relying on external venues like the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The inaugural auction is scheduled for tomorrow and Friday and will feature works by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Chinese-French painter Zao Wou-Ki. Despite concerns about a slowdown in China’s economy affecting the art market, Christie’s reports “very strong demand” in Asia.
