BYD, Geely showcase innovation at Frankfurt auto fair
Nearly 900 Chinese auto suppliers and several electric vehicle (EV) makers, including BYD, Geely, Hongqi, and GAC International, are showcasing their products at Frankfurt’s Automechanika trade fair, highlighting China’s expanding global auto presence despite looming trade barriers. Geely’s senior vice president, Victor Yang, emphasized the company’s commitment to the European market, even as it faces up to 19.3% tariffs on China-made EVs. Chinese carmakers, whose market share in Europe has risen significantly, are investing in overseas expansion and local production to circumvent tariffs, while Europe remains a key innovation hub for the industry. Despite challenges, China-backed companies are gaining ground by focusing on battery and software advancements, outpacing their German and Japanese competitors.
