China sees 30% summer surge in cross-border travel
This summer, China experienced a significant boost in cross-border travel, driven by new policies like visa-free entry and 144-hour transit visa exemptions. In July and August, the country’s border control agencies processed 110 million trips, averaging 1.78 million per day, a 30% increase from the previous year. The highest daily volume occurred on August 24, with nearly 2.24 million travelers. Notably, entries and exits for mainland residents increased by 28.1% to 55.38 million, while Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents saw a 27.6% rise to 44.03 million. Foreign nationals made 10.89 million trips, up 52.8%, and visa-exempt foreign nationals surged by 117% to nearly 2 million.
