BYD sets record as Chinese EV sales soar despite trade barriers
Despite new global restrictions on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs) imposed by the US, EU, and Canada due to concerns over unfair government subsidies, major Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD, Li Auto, Nio, and XPeng experienced significant YoY sales growth in August. BYD achieved a record with a 30% increase in new energy vehicle sales, while Li Auto, XPeng, and Nio also reported strong performance. Tesla’s China-made vehicles saw a 3% sales growth, benefiting from China’s policy incentives. While the EU and North American tariffs have affected Chinese EV exports, companies are responding by investing in overseas manufacturing to counter the long-term impact of these trade barriers.
