Uber partners with BYD to offer 100,000 EVs to drivers
Uber and Chinese carmaker BYD have partnered to provide 100,000 electric vehicles (EVs) for Uber’s drivers, starting in Europe and Latin America before expanding to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Unlike a large purchase order, Uber’s independent drivers will have access to favorable financing, leasing offers, and discounts on recharging, maintenance, and insurance for BYD EVs. This partnership aims to reduce the total cost of EV ownership for Uber drivers, promoting greater adoption of EVs and offering millions of riders greener rides. At the end of 2023, 126,000 of Uber’s 7 million drivers had zero-emissions vehicles.
