Honda to close two factories in Chinese market shift
Honda yesterday announced the closure of a factory in China and the suspension of vehicle production at another, due to intense competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market. Honda will shut down one of its joint venture factories with GAC Group in October, which has a 50,000 vehicle annual capacity and primarily produces the Accord. In November, it will suspend production at a joint venture factory with Dongfeng Motor, which has a 240,000 vehicle annual capacity. This will reduce Honda’s production capacity in China from nearly 1.5 million to 1.2 million vehicles, marking the largest production cut by a Japanese automaker in China.
