Alibaba’s Taobao launches global free shipping for apparel
Alibaba’s Taobao has launched a global free shipping program for its apparel section. The first phase will cover countries including Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea, with plans to expand from Asia to Europe by the end of this year, and gradually achieve global free shipping. The platform will offer substantial shipping subsidies to merchants, directly providing free shipping to overseas consumers. In 2023, the global apparel market reached a scale of $673 billion. Alibaba Group announced its first-quarter results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024. Its Taotian Group, comprising Taobao and Tmall, grew revenue 4% YoY to $93.216 billion. Taobao’s total merchandise volume and order numbers both achieved double-digit YoY growth.
