Thailand targets 8 million Chinese tourists in 2024

Thailand aims to revive its tourism sector by targeting 8 million Chinese tourists this year, contingent upon airlines increasing flight capacities. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has emphasized the need to restore flight seat capacity to at least 80% of pre-pandemic levels to achieve this goal. As of mid-year, Thailand has already welcomed 3.5 million Chinese visitors, leading all nationalities among the 17.5 million total foreign tourists. Despite challenges such as aircraft shortages affecting Thai and Chinese carriers, the influx from China remains crucial, surpassing arrivals from Malaysia and India.
