TikTok Shop joins Shein, Temu in LATAM push

Latin America is emerging as a key battleground for China’s major cross-border e-commerce platforms. In 2025, TikTok Shop launched in Mexico and Brazil, joining AliExpress, Shein, and Temu in expanding aggressively into the region. Temu and Shein have sharply increased ad spending in Latin America, while local giant Mercado Libre has responded by cutting shipping thresholds and logistics costs. TikTok Shop is offering competitive commissions. It plans to open cross-border operations to Chinese sellers in August. Mexico’s shared language and logistics ties with the U.S., combined with high price tolerance among consumers, make it a strategic entry point for Chinese platforms targeting the $1 trillion regional e-commerce market by 2027.
