Japan welcomes record 3.9M visitors in April
Japan welcomed a record 3.91 million international visitors in April, marking the highest monthly total ever, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization. The 28.5% YoY increase was fueled by a rebound in Chinese tourism and holiday travel from Western markets during Easter. Mainland China led all source markets with 765,100 visitors, up 43.4%, followed by South Korea, Taiwan, and the US. From January to April, Japan saw 14.45 million arrivals, putting it on track to exceed 40 million visitors for the year. However, economic uncertainty and tourist over-concentration in cities like Kyoto pose ongoing challenges to the country's 2030 goal of 60 million annual visitors.
