Mugler names Miguel Castro Freitas as new creative director

L’Oréal Group announced the appointment of Miguel Castro Freitas as the new creative director of Mugler yesterday. He succeeds Casey Cadwallader. Although relatively unknown to the public and with limited presence on social media, Castro Freitas brings two decades of experience at major fashion houses. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in 2004, he began his career at Dior under John Galliano, and later held roles at Yves Saint Laurent under Stefano Pilati and Lanvin under Alber Elbaz. His resume also includes senior design positions at Christian Dior Couture during Raf Simons’ tenure, womenswear director at Dries Van Noten, and most recently, creative director of Sportmax from Spring/Summer 2021 through Spring/Summer 2024. Castro Freitas will assume the role on April 1. His debut collection for Mugler is scheduled to be presented during the Spring/Summer 2026 fashion week in September.
