‘Adora Magic City’ cruise success signals sea change in China

China's first domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, has achieved significant milestones in its first year of operation, completing 84 journeys with 600,000 inbound and outbound visits and capturing 40% of the international cruise market in 2024. The 323.6m-long ship, which accommodates up to 5,246 passengers, highlights China’s growing presence in the global cruise industry. Over 1,000 domestic and international manufacturers contributed to its construction, and a second homegrown large cruise ship is set to begin international voyages by 2027. Supported by targeted policies, including visa-free entry for foreign tourist groups and streamlined supply replenishment regulations, China’s cruise economy is steadily recovering, unlocking consumption potential and driving new economic growth.
