Alibaba Group last week announced the launch of its e-commerce app Tao in the Japanese market, with plans to expand its team and fully explore the local market. The app, which went live in October, offers over 3 million products, including clothing, household goods, and digital-related items. It also features AI-powered product recommendations tailored to consumer preferences. Currently, all merchants on the platform are sourced from Tmall and Taobao, with products shipped from China. Notably, this is Taobao’s first localized e-commerce app overseas and Alibaba’s second localized platform after launching Miravia in Spain in 2022.
