Chinese tourism to Australia nears pre-pandemic levels

China is expected to regain its position as the top source market for inbound tourism to Australia in February 2025, driven by the Spring Festival holiday. In February 2024, Chinese tourist arrivals reached 149,000, over 70% of 2019 levels. To improve the experience for Chinese visitors, Tourism Australia signed a three-year cooperation agreement with UnionPay International, which now has over 98% coverage in Australia. Additionally, flight services between the two countries are recovering, with Chinese airlines like China Southern and Juneyao Airlines expanding routes to Australia.
