NBA set for China comeback with Sands deal

The NBA will make its return to the Greater China market through Macau, announcing a multimillion-dollar, five-year agreement to stage annual preseason games at the Venetian Arena. Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum revealed that the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns will play two games on October 10 and 12, 2025, marking the league’s first games in the market since 2019. The partnership with Las Vegas Sands, whose CEO Patrick Dumont highlighted the collaboration’s significance, comes as Macau seeks to diversify its entertainment offerings beyond gaming. The games represent a strategic move to re-engage with China’s massive basketball market, which had previously hosted 28 preseason games involving 17 teams from 2004 to 2019, before relations cooled following a social media controversy.
