China in push to grow winter sports economy

Bookings for ice and snow-related attractions have increased by 30% since the start of the month, with searches for skiing and snow resorts up threefold from the previous week, Chinese online travel agency Qunar data shows. Hotel bookings in Harbin have grown by over 50%, and flight bookings to destinations like Mohe and Qiqihar are up by more than 40%. The State Council yesterday released guidelines to boost the ice and snow economy, aiming for a total industry size of 1.2 trillion RMB ($164 billion) by 2027 and 1.5 trillion RMB ($205 billion) by 2030. The plan includes improving facilities, expanding participation, and fostering international competitiveness in ice and snow sports.
