Aesop opened its Suzhou Cangjie store, housed in a well-preserved late Qing Dynasty Suzhou-style building known as the “Four-sided Flower Hall,” on September 30. The store is a collaboration between Aesop’s design team and the Shanghai design studio Offhand Practice, showcasing the integration of historic architecture with contemporary design. The store features intricately carved phoenixes on its beams and ridges, contributing to its historical significance. Originally located on Ganjiang Road, this structure was dismantled due to urban development but has been restored by local craftsmen. Aesop’s design approach aims to honor the building’s historical essence while offering a modern retail experience.
