Kanye West event boosts Haikou duty-free retail sales

The duty-free retail industry in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, has benefited from a listening party hosted by American rapper Kanye West, generating significant tourism revenue for the region. The event attracted approximately 42,000 attendees, with over 96.5% of them coming from outside of Haikou, primarily from cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Chengdu. The Haikou city government promoted tourism consumption through measures such as offering hotel accommodation discounts, hosting promotional events at duty-free shopping centers, and setting up a Kanye West Fan Benefits information desk at the airport, resulting in tourism revenue of 373 million RMB ($52.22 million).
