Event Watch: China Luxury Seminar (The Hague)

(Courtesy Photo) Although a slowdown in the Chinese economy has had a negative impact on luxury goods sales, Chinese customers continue to be highly visible in the chic shopping areas of Europe’s fashion and design capitals. But, who are these affluent people and what are their immediate and long-term ambitions and aspirations, for themselves and their families? On May 26, 2015 the first seminar on China’s luxury market to be held in the Netherlands will examine these questions over the course of a day-long event at a the historic Hotel Des Indes in The Hague. This seminar will look at the themes surrounding the profile of the rich Chinese individual with an aim is to understand the underlying triggers that set off the purchase of luxury items, both in China and the rest of the world. Organized by Guanxi.nu, a network organization consisting of China experts, the seminar will take a look at homegrown Dutch top-end brands actively involved in attracting this privileged group of consumers and identify the opportunities for Dutch and international brands and businesses in this huge but challenging market. In addition, attention will be paid to the role of the Chinese government’s dual policies of stimulating consumerism to encourage upward mobility and wealth, while at the same time cracking down on conspicuous displays of fortune and graft by state officials.
