The number of Western design and architecture firms opening offices in China has skyrocketed in the last couple of decades, enticed by China's huge (too huge for many) nationwide construction boom and an opportunity to experiment on a scale impossible in their home countries.
This week, the New York and Toronto-based interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg announced that it would be the latest North American design firm to open a new location in China to serve as its Asian project management and marketing office. Located in Guangzhou, Yabu Pushelberg hopes its China office will help international and domestic Chinese clients more efficiently source products, artists and fabricators.
Having previously worked on projects such as Lane Crawford department stores in Hong Kong and Beijing, as well as Louis Vuitton in Hong Kong, Yabu Pushelberg is no stranger to the Chinese market. According to Glenn Pushelberg, co-founder and partner of Yabu Pushelberg, the firm's Guangzhou office is "another demonstration of our ongoing commitment to our client base in Asia and South East Asia." At the moment, the firm is actively working on several domestic projects in China, including luxury condominiums in Guangzhou, as well as hotels and resorts in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Hainan and Beijing.
